FFA Week 2011 | Print |

A shortened FFA week was celebrated this week (February 20-26) by the Pettisville FFA members. Members celebrated in the following ways:

  • A breakfast was shared with faculty, staff, parents and alumni members on Wednesday morning. FFA members started cooking at 6 am and served until 8. The crowd was estimated at 85 people. Thank you to all our many supporters for all you do year-around.
  • A new t-shirt was purchased to wear, along with other ag and FFA related t-shirts.
  • The FFA Alumni bought cookies for the members to enjoy on Thursday.
  • Thursday, the ag classes/FFA members hosted grades 5-8 for a Food for America program. Twenty-three different topics were being presented in 3-4 minutes segments. Small groups moved around the shops and ag room to hear what facts FFA members wanted to share regarding differences in food products.

The topics were:

  • Is there a difference in various colored eggs?
  • White vs. Whole Grain Flour
  • Keeping Food Safe
  • Name Brand or Off-Brand – what’s the difference?
  •  Pork vs. Beef Fat Content
  • Yellow tomatoes vs. Red tomatoes
  •  Goat Milk vs. Cow Milk – can you tell?
  • What Potatoes are used to make the Most Potato Chips?
  •  Frozen or Canned – which is better?
  • What makes cheeses different?
  •  Sugar Content of Chips Ahoy varieties
  •  Whole Milk vs. Skim Milk
  •  Ham or Bacon?
  • Jell-O – When, Why and Where?
  •  Sugar vs. Sugar Substitute
  • Differences in Chocolate
  • How is Jerky made?
  • The differences in sugar-free and regular candies.
  • The differences in Dried vs. Fresh Fruits
  • Which is better tasting – 100% Fruit Juice or Fruit Drink?
  •  Can you tell Coke from Pepsi from RC?
  • Does Kernel Color make a difference in Popping Quality and Taste?
  • Tangelos, Tangerines or Clementines?

Postponed until sometime next month were the Animal Information Day for K-3rd graders and the Hoop Shoot for charity.
