CDE's

Agronomy

The Agronomy team, consisting of Alan Donnett, placed 6th in the District. Agronomy tests your ability to identify common field plants, their seeds, common crop diseases and deficiencies, and common insects found in the field. Aside from the identification is a multiple-choice test, which questions you about basic farming knowledge in the field. The third part of the agronomy contest is a team event, which challenges your team to calculate a budget for farming a field.

General Livestock

The General Livestock team placed 11th outa 23 in districts. In General livestock, contestants were required to judge a variety of livestock. We judged steers, heifers, hogs, sheep, and this year goats were added as a test for next year potentially. After we got done judging the animals we sat down and read different scenarios and calculated numbers to come up with the best animal for the situation.

Ag Engineering-Upcoming

Agricultural Engineering is an online CDE test. Ag Engineering is broken down into three major categories. The three categories are Agricultural Power and Machinery, Structures and Electrification, and Construction and Soil and Water. The test normally is a 75-question test that has 25 questions in each category.

Meats

The meats CDE was held in the Fulton County Sale Area at the Fulton County Fairgrounds on March 8, 2011. The team placed 3rd outa 15 at districts. At the contest we had to identify 30 or so retail cuts like you would find in a grocery store. We also had to place 4 classes of meat such as T-bone steaks, hams, and 2 other cuts that are not as popular for the consumption of consumers. 2 out of the 4 classes had a series of questions to help place the class. This CDE was followed by a written test that had various questions on such as temperature of meat when cooked, minerals and nutrients in the meat, and problem solving.
