National Convention Comments We all had a great time at convention, but some people enjoyed some things more than others. Here are some of the comments that Pettisville FFA students had about our 2011 trip to National Convention in Indianapolis, IN. “Walking through the science fair hall looking at all the different projects amazed me at what all these other kids are doing in science around the country”. (I visited) “Cornell, Morehead, Ohio State, and Colorado State to get more insight into which college would be the right choice for me” “Flygirl taught me that at times you may feel like you can’t make a difference in the world, but really anyone can make a difference”. “We also stopped at a cheese factory on the way; we got to taste and stretch mozzarella cheese”. “Squeaky cheese” was what we got to taste when it was in that step of the process” “I went to Oklahoma State and talked to them about possible career choices in agriculture” “Riley Pagett gave his retiring speech about how life changes so fast and not to take anything for granted” “I went to OSU, Oklahoma State, and UNOH. We collected packets and played games to better understand the college and major we might be interested in”. “Brad Hearon, a keynote speaker at one of our sessions, talked about how choices totally make your life and how we need to know what we want in life and stick to it, and not sell yourself short, and to not get pure pressured into changing yourself to fit in”. “I spoke to many different people from many states all around the country; it was awesome to meet people who you had so much in common with!” “Shannon Norris gave her retiring address and told us that we need to live up to our last day ‘cause we never know when that will be, and to treat people with the up-most respect”. “David Garibaldi was an energetic painter who painted amazing pictures to music, and told his life story and told us how he followed his dream and now is his own boss and loves what he does. He calls his painting and performances “Rhythm and Hues”. “The Buckeye Bash was held after the first session. It was a dance that all the Ohio people went to. The Buckeye bash let us walk around, mingle with others, meet new people, dance, sit at tables and talk to people, and just laugh and have a good time”. “David Garibaldi talked about following your heart and never selling your dreams short, dream the impossible cause you can make it happen” “The chess factory was awesome! It showed us step by step how they made the cheese. We got to watch and observe, help in the process of making it, and we got to taste it, and he gave us a little package of the extra to take home and eat for the rest of our ride to Indianapolis!” “…making cheese is much more complicated than I thought….” “do not let ‘let-downs’ in life bring you down because it just gives you new opportunities…” “Be Bold!!! And work hard…” “There were over 53,070 FFA members and guest registered…” “…if you feel like you are stuck in the world, don’t give up…”
