National Agriscience Fair 2010 |
Luke Meller receives Gold Rating in Senior Division - Environment Science. Luke's agriscience fair project investigated the relationship of wind speed to wind direction at Pettisville,OH. Luke collected data from the wind study tower located on the Genter farm to evaluate wind speed and wind direction over the past year.
Luke concluded that the wind from the westerly direction had the greatest wind speed. He also was able to estimate potential wind speeds at 65 meters (the approximate height the wind turbine will be constructed at) using wind shear exponents derived from data collected.
Taylor Kruse receives Gold Rating and 3rd place in Senior Division - Botany. Taylor's agriscience fair project was on the effect of fecal matter produced by New Zealand rabbits fed different percentages of protein on the growth rate of Glycine max (soybean) plants. Taylor predicted the rabbits fed 18% protein pellets would affect the soybean plants the greatest.
During the experiment, she grew 160 plants and measured the heights of each plant every week. Then when pods were produced, she counted the number of pods on each plant. Taylor concluded that the 16% protein pellets had the highest affect on the plants.
